the exam pattern of GATE 2021 is

1. exam will of 3 hours (180 minutes)

2. there will be total 65 questions

3. question paper will be of 100 marks

4.  there will be two question types

a. multiple choice questions (MCQ)

b. multiple select questions and/or numerical answer type (NAT) questions

5. there will be 3 sections in question paper except for AR. CY, EG,XL,PH and MA papers

a. general aptitude

b. engineering mathematics (for XL papers it is chemistry)

c. subject specific section

6. general aptitude section will consist of a compulsory general aptitude (GA0) section consisting of 10 questions , 5 of the questions among 10 will carry 11 mark and the rest 5 will carry each total marks - 15

7. there will be two types of MCQs

a. MCQs - 1 mark for each correct answer ; 1/3 mark will be deducted every wrong answer

b. MCQs - 2 marks for each correct answer : 2/3 mark will be deducted for every incorrect response. there is no negative marking for numerical answer type (NAT) questions
