Gate stands for graduate aptitude test in engineering. candidates who are currently studying b.tech course or in final year or pre final year or already completed the b.tech course  are eligible to appear in gate exam. so even of you have backlogs you can appear in gate exam.

based on gate score admission to psu's engineering recruitment, admission to m.tech courses is done. however at the time of job interview or admission to m.tech course you must have the pass certificate of your graduation degree , unless your candidature would be rejected.
