Well if your branch is electrical engineering so it is better to give the Exam for the branch you studied for 4 years . Because you did your degree with the branch and you will be applicable to give gate through that branch only.Subjects will come from Electrical and Electronics engineering only.

Yes you can give Graduate and aptitude test in engineering irrespective of an any branch you are in. A student can give GATE in any branch but would need to study or do job further in the selected branch.

In your case you can give exam in Chemical but you will need to opt it for your further studies.
