In the CBSE HSC board, students must score at least 33% in both theory and practical combined to pass. If the physics paper consists of 70 marks for theory and 30 for practical, and you have scored 17 in theory and 20 in practical, your total would be 37 out of 100. Since 33% of 100 is 33 marks, you meet the passing criteria. However, if CBSE has a rule that requires students to pass theory separately, then 17 marks may not be enough. It is best to verify the specific passing requirements by checking the official CBSE guidelines or consulting your school.

Hello there,

It depends on your board's passing criteria . In CBSE , you need:

  1. 33% marks in theory and practical separately
  2. Overall 33% in Physics (Theory + Practical combined)

If your theory paper is out of 70, then 33% of 70 = 23.1 (at least 23 marks required in theory). Since you got 17 in theory, you may not pass unless your board provides grace marks.

If your theory is out of 50 , then 33% of 50 = 16.5 (rounded to 17) , meaning you just pass .

Check your board’s official passing criteria for confirmation.

In CBSE Class 12 Physics, you need at least 23 out of 70 in theory and 10 out of 30 in practicals to pass. Since you scored 17 in theory and 20 in practicals, you won't pass because the theory marks are below the required minimum, even though your practical marks are sufficient.

In CBSE Class 12, the passing criteria require a minimum of 33% marks in both theory and practical combined. If your Physics exam has a total of 70 marks for theory and 30 marks for practical, your total marks would be 17 (theory) + 20 (practical) = 37 out of 100. Since 33% of 100 is 33 marks, you have scored above the passing marks. Therefore, you will pass Physics.

Hello

In most HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) boards including CBSE the passing criteria for Physics usually require:

1. A minimum of 33% marks in theory separately.

2. A minimum of 33% marks in the overall subject (including both theory and practical).

Now, considering the marks mentioned:

Theory marks = 17

Practical marks = 20    Total marks = 17 + 20 = 37

If  board allows combining practical and theory marks for passing, then you may pass since 37/100 is above 33%.

However, if board requires 33% separately in theory (which is about 23/70 for CBSE) then you may fail the theory exam and need a compartment exam.

Hope this gives you the clarity you need.

hi ,

the passing criteria depends upon the board you are from , however most boards have general rules :-

  • Minimum passing marks: Usually 33% in each subject (including theory + practical).
  • Separate passing in theory & practical: Some boards require separate passing marks in both theory and practical , while others consider the combined total .

Your Marks in Physics:

  • Theory: 17 marks
  • Practical: 20 marks
  • Total: 37 marks

Will you pass?

  1. If your board requires a combined 33% (Theory + Practical) Yes, you pass.
  2. If your board requires a minimum passing mark in theory alone (e.g., 23-26 marks in theory) No, you may fail and need improvement/supplementary exams.

hope this helps
