See, everything is dependent upon the standard of the question paper. Let me  explain you one example. Last year and last to last year the topper of Mech department Scored somewaht 94.08 and 94.76 respectivly.

As i have heard that this year's paper was little bit easy than the previous one so i think nothing can be said till now. But if you have 72 marks then yes your are on a safe side considering most will join PSU's. 

So, there is a chance. If not IIT's then you can surely get Top NIT's like W or T or Rourkela.
