For this you have to check the opening and closing ranks of the nit you want to study in. According to my knowledge good nit's start from 5000 and close at 38000. Check your st rank it should be around 2000. You have great chance of getting into a good NIT.
Please look for NIT's like-
NIT, Arunachal Pradesh- 78000
NIT,Manipur - 130000
NIT, Meghalaya - 56000
NIT, Mizoram - 218000
NIT, Sikkim - 160000
If you are from one of this home state you can get added advantage. As cutoff for home state candidate is quite lenient.
