If you simply state academic performance as the reason, it shall knock you out of major comapnies.

So in this case we recommend you to take up online certification basedcourses and show all certificates as  means to close the gap.

I don't think so that there will be any problem because of 4 yr gap. But yes you must hold a valid reason behind this big gap.
