SAP is very wide and has different modules,assuming you from engineering background,most probably your role will be technical and not functional,SAP BASIS,SAP ABAP,SAP MM,SAP BO,SAP BI etc are different modules in SAP.

SAP ABAP is related to coding stuff and if you are from CS/IT background this is the right module for you while SAP BASIS is administration of SAP System,manufacturing a car and maintaining a Car can be an example in simple words.

Now coming to your question 2yrs. experience in manufacturing gield is a pretty good time to get acquainted with the basics of both the modules,which you probably would be trained in.

Basically learning SAP through reading material is seriously boring and problem is that SAP software is way too expensive to get in computer for practicing it,so i would recommend you to first clear the basics from internet or from youtube videos.
