Hello dear candidate,

Yes, you can switch from biomedical to chemical engineering.

But you will need to check college's eligibility rules as only some colleges allows it. Or you may need to take the GATE exam in chemical or biotechnology.

I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.

Hello, Yes, you can switch majors from B.Tech. in Biomedical Engineering to an M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering, but this is a challenging path. The primary requirement is to appear for and score well in the GATE exam, specifically in the Chemical Engineering (CH) paper. GATE rules permit you to take an exam in a subject different from your undergraduate degree. However, this means you will be responsible for self-studying the entire four-year Chemical Engineering syllabus to compete with core chemical engineering graduates.

The main difficulty is not taking the exam, but rather the admission eligibility criteria of the institutes. A high GATE score in the CH paper does not guarantee admission. Most top-tier institutes (like IITs and NITs) explicitly require that candidates for the M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering must also possess a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering or a very closely allied field. A B.Tech. in Biomedical Engineering may not be considered eligible for a "core" M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering program at many institutions.

Your first step must be to thoroughly research the M.Tech. admission brochures of the specific colleges you are interested in. You need to find universities that explicitly state they accept B.Tech. (Biomedical) or "allied" degrees for their M.Tech. (Chemical) program. If you can confirm such options exist, your next step is to dedicate yourself to preparing for and securing a high rank in the GATE (CH) paper.

I hope you found this information helpful.

Hello,

Yes, you can switch to MTech or ME in Chemical Engineering after Btech in Biomedical Engineering, but eligibility depends on the institute. Most IITs/NITs require a valid GATE score in Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Some private universities may allow lateral entry or internal exams for branch change.

Hope you understand.
