As we all know that now JEE Mains is conducted two times in a year so your rank will be based on both the attempts that is of january and april attempt.
To get more clear Idea of the percentile system let us consider one example.
Let the highest marks (of one student) be 280 in shift1 of 9 january and be 270 in shift2 of 9 jan. So these two students will get a 100 percentile score which means 100 percentile does not mean full marks in paper.Now lets try to calculate your percentile which is calculated according to shift. Your percentile would be :
(No. of people having less than 160 marks in shift2/total number of students present in shift2)*100
If we consider last year data, your rank with 160 marks can fall between 98.82509541 and 98.55710695. This percentile can vary according to change in number of appearing students or no. of people scoring less than you. You can calculate your rank according to formula: 1+((100-P) * No. of total students appearing)/100)
Your Rank will vary from 20,000 to 30,000.
