See you have not mentioned the name of examination for which you want to apply so it's quite difficult to guide you with an accurate information but however if we consider your profile then you are an engineering aspirant so you might be interested for JEE-Main and with perspective to this, the answer will be written, if you want to ask about any other exam then you can mention it.

So if you have not received you EWS certificate yet then you can apply for General category but if you get it later on before another shift of JEE-Main (as this year JEE-Main will be conducted four times in February, March, April & May), then you can change your category to EWS later on because the facility will be provided after each attempt.

Note that this application process will continues till January 16th 2021 and last date for payment of application fee is January 17th 2021 after which neither application nor application fee will be accepted and then after the correction window will be opened for the applicants from January 19th to January 21st 2021. Admit cards will be available for download from second week of February 2021 and the examination will be conducted from February 23rd to February 26th 2021 in two shifts per day, for February attempt.

If this is regarding JEE Mains, then yes, JEE Mains will be conducted 4 times a year from now starting from February to May. The first session will be held from February 23rd to 26th and the next sessions schedule will be announced later on. SO you can select General Category now for the February session and then select EWS Category for the subsequent sessions. • The examination will be held in English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Assamese, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Odia and Malayalam.
• There is no negative marking for few set of questions. This means,  there will be no negative marking in the 15 alternative questions. The candidates have to attempt 75 questions out of 90  or 25 out of questions 30 in each section of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
• To qualify for JEE Mains, there is no minimum aggregate criteria. But if you want to join NITs, IIITs or CFTIs then you should score a minimum aggregate of 75% only in your 12th. 11th marks aren't considered. And then to appear for JEE Advanced which is the gateway for admission to IITs, you will need to fulfill the 75% aggregate condition. Now it is 75% for General Category and 65% for Reserved Categories. So how much you score in 12th is what matters to secure your eligibility for NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and JEE Advanced
• Candidates who have passed Class 12 or equivalent exam in 2019, 2020 or those who will appear in 2021 are eligible for JEE Main 2021.
