Hello Vignesh,

Unless you want to do hardware designing, anything electronics related in the field of computer science and technology, building the gap between the physical world and the virtual world, then you don't particularly need formal education i.e bachelor's degree in any technical field. Yes, even if it is application development, website development or software development, you don't.

This is because the development requires less of what you actually learn in your professional degree and more of the programming skills that you develop on your own. Any college will only teach you the basics, test your basics time to time by conducting exams, after that, you're on your own.

If you want to become a web designer, you improve your skills by implementing those basics into your project. You want to become a mobile application developer, which also only requires programming skills. One doesn't really have to join a company to be called a programmer. He/she can create an application on their own if they have the aptitude for it, and publish it online.

Why is this so easy?

Because nowadays, even people who barely click a webpage together in an oven-ready framework and maybe write a few lines in a markup or scripting language, are also called 'programmers'. Just because you have a computer science degree, it doesn't automatically mean you have the affinity for the same. Any person who is genuinely invested in programming and computers can become programmers, and then developers.

  • So what you need right now is:
    • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science/IT/Maths or Computer Engineering. This is required because, while one doesn't really need a degree to become a programmer, if they want to get a job in this field without a good portfolio, they'd need the support of degree. Basically, a degree is only to ensure security.
    • Good programming skills which are gained only through practice and hard work.
    • You need to have a genuine interest in the field because just because software/mobile application development is cool, which it is, doesn't ensure that it will be an easy ride.

Once you satisfy the above conditions, no force in the world can stop you from becoming a successful mobile app developer.

The languages that you should master to become a decent mobile developer are:

  • Java
  • C++/C/#C/Objective C
  • Python
  • JavaScript
  • HTML
  • Shift

Depending on the system for which you're planning to design application, the programming language needs to be chosen. Say, you are learning Shift then only apple devices will support the application. Same for objective C, whereas #C is for Microsoft OS.  For android, Python and JavaScript+HTML.

I hope this helps you. Let me know if you need help.
