Application for correction in name of Candidate/Father’s/Mother’s/Guardian’s name will be considered only within one year of the date of declaration of CBSE result provided the application of the candidate is forwarded by the Head of Institution with the following attested documents:

• True Copy of Admission form(s) filled in by the parents at the time of admission duly attested by the Head of the concerned institution.

• True Copy of the School Leaving Certificate of the previous school submitted by the parents of the candidate at the time of admission duly attested by the Head of the concerned institution.

• True copy of the portion of the page of admission and withdrawal register of the school where the entry has been made in respect of the candidate, duly attested by the Head of the concerned institution.

I want to correction in my 10th and 12th marksheet

vi karna chahati hu jo galti se hai hai mugh pr 10 documents hai me class 10 ki Chhatra hu please  help me

I am facing the same issue from last three months .

1. Go to your school

2. Send necessary documents to your board regional office

1 . Photocopy of 10 th and 12 th marksheet

2. Photocopy of admission form

3. Photocopy of admission and withdrawal register

4. Loc application ki galti kaise hui

5. Previous class and current class transfer certificate

6. Correction in a tabular form

7. Affidavit with notary for a name change


All these must attested by school principal.

Make sure you make two copies of these documents one for school which they send to board and other one you take to the board by yourself for faster process.

If you think there has been a spelling or typing mistake in your Father’s/Mother’s Name in any of your Certificate or Marksheet in your 10th or 12th Marksheet or any other Certificate, you can apply for Correction in your Father’s/Mother’s Name.

If you want to make changes in your Father’s/Mother’s Name or Surname in any of your Certificate or Marksheet in your 10th or 12th Marksheet or any other Certificate, you can apply for Change in your Father’s/Mother’s Name.

Step 2 : Reading the Instructions & Filling up the Form

Read the instructions given at the bottom of the Application Form and fill up the form carefully.

Step 3 : Documents Required for making Corrections or Changes in your Father’s/Mother’s Name

• Documents Required for making Correction in your Father’s/Mother’s Name

(a) Admission form(s) filled in by the parents at the time of admission.

(b) The School Leaving Certificate of the previous school submitted by the parents of the candidate at the time of admission.

(c) Portion of the page of admission and withdrawal register of the school where the entry has been made in respect of the candidate.

(iii) The Board may effect necessary corrections after verification of the Original records of the school and on payment of the prescribed fee.

• Documents Required for making Change in your Father’s/Mother’s Name

Applications regarding change in name/surname will be considered where such changes have been permitted by a Court of Law and notified in a Government Gazette . In the event of Court of Judicature allowing the change of name of a candidate, the same shall be carried out by the Board after obtaining relevant documents concerning change of name published in an official gazette.

You will have to change name not only in 10th but all Certificate which is a long process.

If you father name is appearing as ‘ zxxxx’ in all the documents instead of ‘zzxxx’ the real name, I would still advise you to mention zxxxx because you have documentary evidence and you will have no problem. I suppose your Aadhaar Card will also be carrying zxxxx as your father’s name. If yes , please go ahead as changing name is very cumbersome and time consuming process . If Aadhaar is carrying correct name then still I would advise to get the name changed in Aadhaar as per certificate.

I am writing this out my own experience as my wife’s father name was spelled wrong in all certificates and we took expert advise and mentioned the name as per certificate in PP application . I had also talked to school / college authorities and as the matter was old they simply showed helplessness but at the same time stated that even if matter is more than two years old , it is very cumbersome and authorities take lot of time.

However you can seek professional advise from advocate but his advise will be no differentthan what I have stated above but there is a way in the sense that your father can file an affidavit which the advocate will prepare stating that his correct name is zzxxx instead of zxxxx and his name appearing in his son’s marksheets ( details of all marksheets with name of son) is wrong . The affidavit will be got notarised by the advocate . There after your father will have to give advertisement in local news paper about the same ; draft of which your advocate will prepare. This was one of the options given to me also but we had no time and were living in a different city far away from her father’s place so we went ahead with the misspelt name.

If you're still in school, contact your school office and enquire them about corrections. If you've home board, they can help you. Otherwise, if you're a CBSE board aspirant then you'll have to visit the CBSE office and get this issue solved. All the best.

Hello Kriti, changes in your marksheet like correction of name, parents name etc can only be done within a year of declaration of the results, and not beyond that.

Go to the website of CBSE and download the application form and fill up and submit as per the instructions given on the site, you may also be required to pay an application fee for that.
