In Jee Main Question paper, there are both Multiple Choice Questions and Numerical Problems as well. Each of the questions, both MCQs and Numerical, carries 4 marks. Therefore, 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer. But if you give a wrong answer in MCQ, only 1 mark will be deducted from your total marks. Now if all the answers you have given are correct. After calculating the total, suppose you got 150 marks. Now one of your MCQ answers are wrong. Therefore, 1 mark will be deducted from your total mark i.e. your net score will be 149. For numerical value questions, there is no negative marking.

Hi

In jee mains there's negative marking of 1 marks for each wrong option selected by you for MCQs question whereas there is no negative marking for numerical value questions

And for each correct answer you are awarded 4 marks.

Let us understand this with an example:-

Let us suppose that you answer a total of 40 in JEE Mains.

Out of that 10 answers are wrong and only 30 answers  are correct.

Then ,

Marks for correct answers

= number of correct answers * 4

=30*4

=120

Marks deducted for wrong  answers

= number of wrong answers * 1

=10*1

=10

Then,

Marks obtained

=Marks for correct answers - Marks deducted for wrong  answers

= 120-10

=110.

I hope that this clear all your doubts

Thank you
