Hello Student,

Definitely, you need to purchase your own stuff whether you get admission in an IIT institution or any other college. A laptop is an integral part of en engineers life, especially at institutes like IITs, NITs and any other college. In a recent notification, IIT Bombay- one of the best institutes for engineering in India, has written to parents of the students who will be joining the institute this year, advising them not to provide their children with laptops/computers for the first semester.

A prototype of the laptops was distributed among IIT-B freshers for free while an upgraded version is being sold to schools and colleges in interior villages. So far 1600 laptops have been sold along with an additional order for 200 units, which are currently being manufactured.

Regards!!
