In NEET your marks are divided on the two ranks.  When you get your scores & ranks, the ranks are split into two: All India Rank (AIR) and Category Rank. The Category Rank is the rank you have scored in your particular category, be it General/OBC/ST/SC/Physically Handicapped. This is important, as it comes into play during the NEET counselling process and plays a crucial role during your option entry stage.

The overall rank is the or AIR is the rank which you get among all the candidates who appeared for the exam. So first your overall rank is checked if you get admission basis on that rank then its alright but if not then category rank is applied.
