It is not mandatory to attend both paper 1 and 2, it is upto the choice of student to attempt both the papers. Paper 1 would be for getting admission for B.Techand Paper 2 would be getting admission into B.Arch.

No, there is no such criteria that student has to attend both the exams as it totally depends on the student as what all exams he/she wants to give. Also, if you want to get admission in B.Tech/B.E then you can choose paper 1 only but if you are interested in B.Arch along with B.Tech then you can go for both the exams.
