Yes it is necessary to appear in jee main for applicability of Indian navy SSR.

Under the third and largest scheme, around 120 cadets will now be shortlisted for the SSB interview only on the basis of their JEE (Mains) ranks.

All this has become necessary because the Navy needs a strong cadre of officers with advanced technical expertise to handle the sophisticated "platforms", weapon systems and sensors in the pipeline.
