Dear Aspirant ,

You can choose any option based on convenience. If you are a working professional you can prepare for the exam at home. But going for coaching is always better, because that will help you to focus more on exam preparation and score more. If you are seeking for coaching these are the premier coaching centers

These are pros and cons of coaching and self study:

Coaching

Pro:

  1. Your concepts become more clear in less time.
  2. You undergo frequent tests and hence are more practiced.
  3. You are more informed about the test pattern and any changes.

Cons:

  1. If the batch size is big then your query may not get answered and you may not get personal attention.
  2. If classes are not productive then its a big waste of time (esp. the class is not near your house - include travelling time).
  3. Your money gets stuck because most of the coaching institutes takes major amount of the fee upfront.

Self study

Pros

  • Time saving
  • Self relying makes you more confident

Cons

  • If you are not capable enough to understand a topic it becomes very hard for you to study it
  • Learning is limited
  • You won't maintain regularity.

Hi Tharani,

Thanks for A2A.

Generally MAT exam has Verbal Ablity, Logical Ability, Data Interpretation, Mathematical skilss and Indian and Global Environment. It is very much similar to CAT and the syllabus is basic 10th class level. SO you would already know most of the concepts.

There are two ways to deal with this:

  • You can sit at home and prepare by writing many mock exams and referiing to famous author books.
  • You can go to the coaching institute.

At the end of the day the amount of practice you have in writing a full length MAT mocks will lead to your expertise and therefor increase your percentile. Be it coaching or self, Mocks are the most important.

However, I would suggest you go for coaching because that will help you channelise your energy at the right place and come up with proper strategies to crack the exam. Seek out for personal guidance in coaching.

All the best

Hi Tharani !

  • MAT exam is not very difficult, you can prepare for it easily at home.
  • As you know the MAT exam has the following pattern
  • Language Comprehension
  • Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
  • Data Analysis and Sufficiency
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Indian and Global Environment

  • Out of which only the first four sections will

be used to determine the merit position and percentile.

Tips for preparation :

  • Make a note of the sections that you might be weak in , or need to focus on more.
  • Prepare a schedule on how you plan to complete all the important topics.
  • Go through all the previous year question papers and practice them regularly .
  • Take many mock tests regularly.
  • Refer books especially used for MAT exam .

Hope this helps, all the best !
