Dear aspirant,
Taking a drop year is an extremely risky and courageous choice and must be be taken only under dire circumstances.
First of all, please check if you are actually interested in engineering. If yes, why were you not able to do well in KCET/JEE Main this year? Ask yourself these questions.
If you weren't able to do well due to personal reason and you feel strongly that you will be able to improve yourself and your performance in the drop year, go ahead and take a drop.
It is always better to pursue engineering from a reputed colleges as it will open a lot of doors for you. Take a drop if you are willing to work hard and if you are confident that you'll be able to do way better.
If you are taking a drop make sure that you have support system to help you stay motivated and you have teachers to get your doubts clarified and to guide you. Make a plan beforehand and think well about if you can stick with it or not.
Please think well and make a decision.
