No,  St Xavier's college is a private college. St Xavier's College Kolkata (SXCCAL) was established in 1860 by the Society of Jesus, and became affiliated to Calcutta University in 1862. It was granted the status of autonomous college and college with potential for excellence by UGC in 2006, college of excellence in 2014 and college with a special heritage status in 2015.
