The counselling is done to allocate seats and is based on the rank obtained by the candidate, their preference of course and college and number of available seats.

Usually counselling at vit happens at the same time at all the campuses and the candidate gets to decide which counselling to attend as per the available choices. Also this counselling is conducted in many phases and you receive notifications for dates to attend the same.
