The verdict of Madras High Court was reserved on the case filed by State Government and political parties seeking 50% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in medical and dental seats surrendered to the All India Quota (AIQ) every year, until 28 th of July,2020.

Now, the Madras High Court has cleared OBC quota in AIQ seats in State Govt.-run medical collges. The contention of Medical Council of India has been rejected that AIQ in non-central institutions was created at the discretion of the Supreme Court in 1984, and hence only the latter could order OBC reservation under that quota.

The judges have directed the Centre to constitute a committee to fix the percentage and other terms for OBC reservation from next year, so that the current year admission process doesn’t get disturbed.
