The Department of Atomic Energy oversees TIFR, a National Centre of the Government of India that also functions as a deemed university that confers master's and doctoral degrees. Dr. Homi Bhabha's vision led to the establishment of the Institute in 1945 with funding from the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.Hence it is said to be that Tata Institute of Fundamental Research is a Government college.
