RD Sharma Mathematics is generally used by students for CBSE preparation. However, it has some very useful topics for JEE Mains and Advanced. The main thing is that the fundamental concepts of topics is explained very well in this book and this makes your base stronger for attempting JEE Mains and Advanced questions. However, it is a lengthy book and takes a lot of time and patience. If you have enough time, go for it. If you don't have much time, try solving only the MCQ questions at the end of every chapter.

For Mains, you could use it but you cannot rely upon it for Advanced, in fact, you cannot rely on any book for Advanced. You have to solve many books, including NCERTs too. Moreover, solve previous year exams at least of the past 30 years. You could buy Arihant books for the same.

Moreover, if you could, then arrange for some coaching institute material. They are specially designed for the JEE MAINS & ADVANCED purpose.

 You need your NCERT book for your base and concepts and a question bank that has questions of Mains and advance levels.

R.D.Sharma is a better choice for the start of preparation of JEE Mains as they comprises a lots of questions which is formula based and also some analytical problems .At last you should do previous years papers .

RD Sharma makes foundation stronger, prefer other references to improve the subject knowledge in depth and refer concept expert books to solve the problems faster.

you can go for the Arihant and Cengage publications. They will make you reach the JEE level. You will have a good practice of the questions and a lot of types of questions will be covered.

Dear Vishakan, to be honest R.D Sharma book covers lots of problems but the level of the problems not that much high like of JEE MAINS or Advanced. This book will surely help you with your CBSE course and making your concepts strong (the basic requirement to clear JEE). After this you must be needed other books like Magraw Hill or Arihant that covers a lot of problems related to JEE mains and advanced.

Nowadays the R.D Shrama book also gives problems that came in JEE MAINS.
