In order to get admission in VIT Chennai it is compulsory to take part in the VITEEE exam and only then you can have a chance of getting a seat there. Although some seats are reserved for the management quota students and you might get these seats without scoring good marks in the VITEEE exam. Hope this helps.

First, I see a lot of agents trying to lure new VIT aspirants here. Please don't fall for it. You can contact VIT directly and talk to them about different ways of admission.

To answer your question, there is the NRI quota which requires no written exam(they only need you to qualify your 12th exam with percentage above 60% aggregate in respective combination) and you can directly select the branch you choose. However, the fees are sky high and you end up paying in dollars every year.

Second way is management quota, for this you still need to write VITEEE and if you haven't been selected you need to pay the required fees to take admission to the selected course.
