Jains at the national level are mostly found in 6 states such as Maharashtra (1.2%), Gujarat (1%),Delhi(1%), Rajasthan (0.9%), Madhyapradesh (0.8%) and Karnataka (0.7%) .There are two sects of Jains: swetambar and digambar,While the members belonging to the swetamber are mainly into business,the latter are into agriculture and petty business.Poverty is high among Digambara.Hence Digamber Jains in Karnataka are given the backward tag of 3B category (OBC) as for reservation of jobs and seats in educational institutions.
