Jamia Milia Islamia, or JMI for short, is a Delhi-based central university. The institution was founded at Aligarh in 1920, and it was designated as a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. The Institution Grants Commission (UGC) has recognised the university, and it is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). JMI received a "A" grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Since its inception, the university has made significant growth and has established itself as one of the country's leading educational institutions.

According to the MHRD's latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020, Jamia is among the top ten universities in the country in terms of overall ranking. The university is ranked 28th in the NIRF Engineering Ranking 2020, which is extremely excellent considering India has over 5000 engineering schools. JMI is a national institute/university (as defined by NIRF) that offers over 100 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and other programmes. JMI is well-known for its MA in Mass Communication, MBA, and B.Tech programmes.
