after giving your jee mains exam, you do not have to wait for any number of years to give your jee advance exams. If you qualify through jee mains, you will have approximately 45 to 50 days till you have to appear for your jee advance exams.

So, after giving your JEE Mains examination, you have to wait for a while for the results to be declared, which usually is declared within a month. If and only if  you clear the cutoff for JEE mains, will you then be able to sit for JEE Advaced examination.  This entire process usually takes a month and half, the gap between JEE Mains and advanced.
