Yes, Petroleum Engineering is the number one area of research at the University of Stavanger. The tradition goes back to the early 1970s when Stavanger became the undisputed oil capital of Norway, a status it has held since. The first master students in petroleum engineering graduated in Stavanger at the same time as the first oil production in Norway started.
