For top IIMs like IIM A, B and C you need to have above 92+ percentile to get a call and above 95+ percentile to increase the probability of your conversion. For other old IIMs like IIM K, L and I you need to have above 85+ percentile and 90+ to increase the probability of your conversion. And for getting a call from new IIMs or ultra new IIMs you need to have 80+ percentile.

Sometimes when your profile is strong then you might get a call from some of the new IIMs or ultra new IIMs with CAT percentile in 70's although converting anyone of them will be very very difficult until you perform extraordinarily in the second round.

Seeing your friend's profile there is very slim chance of getting calls from new/ultra new IIM but that's all he can expect. So, have patience till he gets the call and if yes then say him to perform extraordinarily in the second round so that he might get admission in one of the extended lists.
