Since you have not mentioned that you have secured the rank in which entrance examination, so let me talk from the perspective of such a rank in the joint entrance examination.

In the top NITs and IITs, the highest cutoff is generally for the computer science and the IT streams, a rank of 5000 is not enough to get you a good seat in the top NITs. But, if you take part in the josaa counselling then it's very likely that you will end up finding a good CSE seat in some of the government funded engineering colleges.
