Yes, your son can get into few lower NITs with this rank. You haven't mentioned your home state, and the branch you want to choose. Analysing the previous year data, your son can get a seat in NITs if he comes under the Home State quota.

For a General student with 92.5% and 80k rank it is not possible to get into any of the IIT's unless you get state quota and even if your son gets the college top colleges and also the mian branches are not possible. As the qualifying cutoff for a general student is 90.37% so, you can apply to Jee advanced and try securing a rank in advanced.
