SInce you have not mentioned your son's quota/category , I am considering him as general category student . And as a general category , this is a very low score for admission in kmit.
KMIT does accept JEE Mains score for admission. Based on rank and previous year cutoffs, it takes admission till around 7000 rank.
So , I think it will be very difficult for him to secure a admission with this score in kmit.

It's quite difficult to predict cut off marks for medical colleges keeps changing every year depending upon various factors. 70 % of the seats are allotted based on the merit in the EAMCET. 30 % of the seats are earmarked for Management/NRI candidates. In addition to the above, Diploma holders are admitted in second year of B. Tech to the extent of 20% of intake based on the merit in the ECET, under lateral entry scheme. One can easily get into the college if they have a good eamcet rank. For general candidates, a rank of at least 6000 can grant admission.
