With a VITMEE rank of 861, your chances of getting M.Tech in VLSI Design at VIT Chennai is quite good, as Chennai has ceteris paribus relatively lower closing ranks compared to Vellore. Nevertheless, VIT Vellore (the main and hence more competetive campus) is expected to have a cutoff that is higher for most of its in-demand specializations, including VLSI. Admission also depends on seat availability, reservation or reservation categories and competition level per year. I suggest you maintain a preference for both campuses during counselling and remain open-minded. You may receive Chennai in the initial rounds and later upgrade to Vellore, subject to seat availability.
