PEC is a government insitute. It was established In 1921 named as Mugalpura Engineering Collage at lahore. On that time it was a private insitute. On that time Pakistan was the part of India. It got affiliation from Panjab university in 1931.

After partion it was relocated in Rorkee India. After Independence India developed his States. But Rorkee is the part of uttrakhand. So PEC was shifted to Chandigarh and functioned by government from that time.
