For getting admission in Biotechnology, most colleges require you to give an entrance exam but there can be a few exceptions where your admission is based on your 12th score/percentage.

You have to check the eligibility criteria for admission in biotechnology in your choice of college and the state where it is located, that should you give a clear idea if you need to take an entrance exam.

For getting admission in top government or private colleges in India, you have to give entrance exam. But there are many colleges/universities that allow direct admission based on 12th exam percentage. Like in Lovely Professional University, if you have more than 70% in 12th, you will get direct admission.
