Yes, there is a use. As all the students are given both the local and  state ranks and latter is based on the no. Of candidates from your regions. Basically there are 4 regions-

1-JNTU

2-andhra university

3-SV university

4-osmania

If you are from AU region and want to take admission in JNTU only a few seats will be available for you.

There is only a single rank

There is reservation category wise and also for locals

Bc four categories a b c d 

Sc and St 

Also physically handicapped
