SC/ST category students who had got a lower rank in JEE Advanced will be able to acquire a seat in one of the IITs. Before some years, these students, after admission struggled to cope up with the speed of professors, syllabus and with the other students. As a result the no. of failures increased. So the IITs came up with this prepartory course where these students are taught the basics of engineering i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, made to appear for an exam and then allowed to study in their desired branch.

Preparatory Course. One year preparatory course for SC/ST candidates is offered to improve their intake in the B.Tech and Dual Degree programme. Generally 30 to 40 candidates from the non-qualified candidates list in the ranking order of JEE are taken.
