Hi Mayank, generally the IT companies are being divided into two categories, one os product company and the other is service companies. 

Product Companies are companies, who recruit a less amount of students during placements. They give a lot of development projects and exposure to many different technologies. The package is also high because of the less recruitment, and they expect a lot from the students. They expect students to be strong in coding concepts (mainly OOPS, Data Structures) and also should be able to do full length coding in less span of time, with optimised coding logics. Some of the top product companies are Microsoft, Google, Oracle, Apple, HP etc. 

Service companies are companies which dont provide much of development projects and they service to most of the product companies. They give exposure to much of old concepts and support projects. Lucky are those who get themselves into development projects. But these companies are places where one if works hard can learn and prepare himself for product companies. Some of the top service companies in India are, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL, Accenture, CTS, Capgemini, IBM.
