Marine Engineering has both pros and cons, every field of work has its pros and cons.

I will mention some of the Pros and Cons to help you with your decision. Ill start by mentioning the Cons:

Cons:

Stay away from dear ones for months at a strech.Very hardworking schedule at sea.

Pros:

Earnings increase per promotion. ( Median salary for 4th Engineer(the career of a Marine Engg. after training starts with this rank) is about 180000 pm for Indian Seafarers and it keeps on increasing with each promotion one gets.A man is known by the responsibilty he has on his shoulders. Youll be proud of your job.Travelling and visiting comes as a bonus with Marine Engg.Physical work will get lesser as you get promotions.

The cutoff was around 200 marks

It is getting really tough to get jobs right now due to recession in world economy and excess of people passing out every year. But if you are from a good college and have your basics right, you can get a good company. Getting to a good college is very important
