This is totally your decision. If you think that taking a drop this year will land you in a better position than now, surely go for it. But if you doubt that you will not be able to get in a better position than this even after one year, I would suggest that do not go for it. These days college really matters a little. Yes IITs and NITs do, but only to an extent. Prepare as much as you can for upcoming JEE.

If you are determined for studying in NITs or IITs, then taking a year drop is no harm. Before deciding be confident that you can achieve your dream in upcoming year.

I would suggest you to have a backup plan for worst case. I would suggest you to take admission in graduation as if in case you couldn't clear IITs or NITs, then your year will not be wasted.

If you take drop and do hardwork then you might get some good colleges such as nit, IIT or other reputed colleges. But you need to make sure that you are not going to waste this year as after drop your chances of taking admission in engineering Colleges will reduce. Also, you will have 2 attempts of Jee mains during drop and don't forget to give some other entrance level exams(university level or state level) as this work as a back up plan if you doesn't get good score in jee mains.
