Hello,
The benefit of reservation is it lowers general rank by some factor. If you have ST-female reservation category then your general rank will get lowered by factor of 2. For example, if your rank is 10k then your categorical rank will be below 5k.

When your rank is lowered, you become eligible for more college options from which you can select one for admission.
For example, 10k rank may not make you eligible for a top college but 5k can make you eligible. Your rank will be come in range of different BE branch cutoff.
For different branch, there will be different rank cutoff range.
