Food engineering concentrates on unit operation of food manufacturing, design and development of process and machineries for mass manufacturing, whereas food technology is the apex stream which covers all aspects of food starting with the physics, chemistry, biology of food science followed by engineering and technology to preserve and process foods as well as innovate new products and processes which can be mass produced.

Hi,

As far as the difference between B.Tech in Food Technology and B.Tech in Food Engineering, there is a slight difference between the two. Food Technology deals with the production processes that make foods. Whereas, Food (Process) Engineering deals with microbiology, applied physical sciences, chemistry and engineering for food and related industries.

Job profiles in Food Process Engineering include Quality Control Executive, Production Manager, Product Development Executive in companies like Cadbury, Venky’s, Anmol etc. Government jobs in Food Technology include many firms under the Food Corporation of India, various government organisations and laboratories. Private sector jobs are in companies like Dabur India, ITC Limited, Agro Tech Foods, Parle Products Pvt. Ltd., Cadbury India Ltd., Nestle India Pvt. Ltd., PepsiCo India Holdings, Britannia Industries Ltd., Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Godrej Industries Ltd.

Both are equally good in terms of job opportunities and career growth. You have to decide yourself based on your preferences.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
