Getting into IIMs is a little complicated procedure. Getting a good pointer does not assure your admission in IIMs but definitely increase your probability of getting admission.



Other than pointer there is different weightages in different IIMs for 10th, 12th and graduation percentage. Also for being an engineer or non engineer. For being a girl or boy. To increase diversity there is always more marks for a girl and a non engineer. And finally high weightage for your essay writing and personal interview in the final list.



According to past records you should at least get 95 percentile in order to get admission in new IIMs. For old IIMs 99 percentile is must. These marks can get down if you are a non engineer because of less competition among non engineers.



But it is simple as higher your percentile is higher will be your probability of getting selected but still there is no surity.

The percentile that you need differs according to a variety of criteria. For those people who have a great profile and good work experience, the percentile required is lower. I have seen people with 91-92 percentile in the general category getting calls. But if you are a fresher and do not have a stellar profile, you have to work extra hard - 97 and above should get you shortlists. The actual criteria for selection is a complex construct which takes a lot of variables into account. Your past academic performance, work ex and diversity are some of the factors. And it also differs from IIM to IIM.



But if you want to ensure that you have calls from the best of IIMs i.e. the old ones be on the safe side. Get 97.5 and above

Overall percentile requirement for General category candidates at IIMs is 90+ percentile. The higher your percentile, better is your chance. However, several IIMs take into consideration past academic records, work experience and other factors of the profile. Hence, you need to have a holistically enhanced profile to increase your admission chance at IIMs.
