Dear Aspirant,

CAT 2018 consisted of 3 sections Qunatitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability. To qualify for IIM's one has to clear the individual sectional cutoff as well as the overall cutoff decided by the respective IIM's. For most of the old IIM's (i.e IIM ABCIKL) the sectional cutoffs were around 80 percentile and overall cutoff 90 percentile in CAT and for the new IIM's the sectional cutoffs were 70 percentile and overall cutoff 80 percentile in CAT.  These sectional and overall cutoffs are the minimum scores that are required for these IIM's to give you a call and these scores in no way gaurantee that you will get a call from the IIM's. The actual CAT cutoffs for IIM's are much above these numbers.

CAT cutoffs for any individual IIM is not a single number and they vary highly depending on your profile.

IIM-A insists much on diversity so cutoff %ile depends on other people's marks of the same field. Academic scores(10th, 12th and Graduation) above 80–85% is kind of must. In CAT, Mostly for engineers it is above 99 %ile and for fresher boys it is even higher. Non engineer girls with a good profile can expect a call at 96–97%ile also.

IIM-B puts a lot of emphasis on work experience so for freshers it is way too tough. Equal emphasis on Academics like Ahmedabad.

IIM-C, I think is most flexible with work ex and acads compared to A and B. CAT is usually above 99 %ile.

IIM Indore’s call is most specifically dependent on your 10th and 12th marks and those having a low score in it ( below 87–88) should not expect a call at any CAT %ile.

For new IIMs, there is a common interview which you have to appear if you have no call from old IIMs. They usually have a cutoff around 96%ile.

Important: There is never an accurate number for any IIM's call. And everyone has different criteria for call which can change every year. So it's advisable to go through it on the institute's website. You will find a lot of exceptional cases where people with lesser %ile but good profile converted and people having 99.9+ had no call.

PS: All the above figures I mentioned are for General category candidates.

Hi Raunak,

To qualify cutt-offs in IIMs you need to score atleast above 80 in all your previously years education namely class 10th, class 12th and graduation. Apart from that those who get percentile above 98 have a higher chance to get a call from iims for gd pi round.
