Deshbandhu College was established in 1952 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, in memory of the Late Lala Deshbandhu Gupta . Deshbandhu College made its beginning with 72 students. Deshbandhu College was transferred to the Ministry of Education and later the college was taken over by the University of Delhi. Deshbandhu College was accredited with a grade of B++ by NAAC.  In 2021, Deshbandhu College has been ranked 60th by NIRF in the college category, whereas, in NIRF rankings 2020, the college was ranked 96th in the same category.
