When we are seeing placements of NIT/ IIIT , which thing we have to prefer between Median Package and Average Package ?

Hello Aspirant,

Not only for placements of NIT / IIIT, but for placements in any college be it government or private or even the IITs or even if you're pursuing any certification course, it is always better to look for the MEDIAN package over Mean / Average package and that is because average gives you the mean of all the packages.

Say, there are 5 candidates A,B,C,D,E and they got packages  8LPA, 8LPA, 9LPA, 5LPA and 40LPA respectively. What your average will give you is (8+8+9+5+40)/5 i.e. 14 LPA.

However, your median here is 8 LPA.

Now, which among the two, do you think is more stable? Obviously "median", right!

In short, median gives you the measure of what an academically average student is most likely to get.
