Dear Aspirant,

Design is a growing field in the world today. The term itself is vast and has both many denotations and connotations. When you ask about a course, it can be of varying length and intensity based on their content and a lot of universities today around the world are offering design related courses.

A basic design course is supposed to help you deal with the basics of design at a fundamental level. They will help you know the different applications of the same. The courses differ depending on their focus on drawing, modelling, trends, products, fashion etc.

Assuming you are open to all kinds of design programmes around the world. Here are some choices you can consider, both abroad and in India.

ABROAD

  • The University of VIC provides courses in Business, Innovation and Design. This is a full-time course for one semester and is practice-oriented. The cover the theory which is required for application-based work. This is aimed at undergraduate students who want to spend about 15 weeks in Barcelona, which is also known as the European Capital of Design. This will include topics like Global Marketing, Design Thinking, Start-up creation, Luxury marketing and so on.
  • IED, Rio de Janeiro provides a course in retail design which is of 3-month duration and is also part-time in nature. This is focused on teaching how to design your physical store which would include branding, the various values which are followed and visual merchandising. They will teach you application-based ambience strategies which can be used for sale focusing on the architectural and physical aspects of the stores.
  • FLA, London offers a one-week design thinking course which teaches a human-centred approach to fashion. The best part is that this course will also make sure you roam around London and its secret beauties alongside the workshops and keynote addresses.

ONLINE

There is an online course by the University of Fashion which is known to provide long lectures through video sessions. They provide classes on draping, pattern making, CAD pattern making, accessories etc. making it a viable platform. They are offering a unique course in Product Development and Technical Design which will enable you to manage the business development of products and teach you how to draw tech designs.

INDIA

The most popular design courses in India are industrial design, Animation, Apparel Management, Graphic Design, Film Making, Interior Design, Product Design, Game Art and Design, Web Designing, Journalism Design and Fashion Design. Depending on the one you choose, there are a variety of universities offering them.
