Physical Handicapped reservation is for Candidates with a minimum degree of disability of 40% or more will be eligible for the quota. Candidates must have a "Certificate of Disability," which must be issued in accordance with the Disabilities Rights Act. Candidates with a 50% to 70% locomotor disability in the lower limb are eligible for this reservation. If the seats under the 3% quota remain vacant, locomotor disability of the lower limbs affecting 40% to 50% of the population will be considered.
People with a visual disability of less than 40% are eligible for MBBS but are not eligible for the PwD quota or reservation because the minimum disability required for reservation is 40%. ( in all type of disabilities).
People with a visual disability of 40% or more are not eligible to pursue MBBS (although the upper limit for disability in all other types of disability is 80 percent, but the Hon'ble Supreme Court has passed this verdict in the case of visual disability).
People with a visual impairment of greater than or equal to 40% can pursue MBBS and qualify for PwD reservation if and only if they can demonstrate that their visual impairment can be reduced to less than 40% with the use of advanced low vision aids.
